Successful Approaches For Investing A Literature Review

Successful Approaches to Investing: A Literature Review Introduction Larry Ellison creator of the Oracle Corporation a 447.2-Billion-dollar multinational computer technology corporation, Mark Zuckerberg founder Facebook a 370-Billion-dollar social media service, and Warren Buffet founder of nothing. Among these three men who is the wealthiest? Shockingly, Warren Buffet is the richest with a net worth of 66.4 billion dollars. Warren Buffet utilized his investing acumen to go from a total net worth of twenty-thousand at twenty-one years of age to a total net worth of sixty-six billion at eighty-six years of age. He is not the only person who has been wildly successful on the shoulders of investing alone; men like Carl Icahn, Ronald Perelman, Mikhail Prokhorov, Philip Anschutz, and Harold Simmons are all comfortably in the â€Å"billionaire’s club† largely because of their excellent investments. Many scholars believe that certain strategies can be effective in â€Å"beating† the market over a long period of time due to the v ast amount of empirical evidence. However, there is still a significant degree of uncertainty as to the effectiveness of one strategy over another amongst institutional investors and scholars alike. The vast majority of experienced investors believe that diversification, patience, and value are the three columns of successful investing. Cultural Treatments Of Hiv / Aids - 2200 Words

Human Immunodeficiency Virus Medications and Treatments Cultural treatments of HIV/AIDS Adji Ngathe Kebe Borough of Manhattan Community College Abstract The Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) is an intelligent as well as remarkably complex microbe. It weakens the immune system as it progresses and eradicates crucial lymphocytes such as T-Cells or CD4 cells. It renders the body useless against fighting other infections such as Mycobacterium tuberculosis. HIV is commonly transmitted through infected blood via unprotected sexual contact such as anal sex or oral sex, but it can be contracted through contaminated needles and such. Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome (AIDS) is the final stage of infection in which the†¦show more content†¦Key Words: HIV/AIDS, CD4 cells, ART, HAART, AZT + 3TC/Combivir, Interferon Introduction Although a cure has not been discovered for HIV/AIDS there are many treatments/ medications capable of slowing its progression such as antiretroviral therapy, highly active antiretroviral therapy (HAART), AZT + 3TC, and Interferon. These are the most commonly known to make an impact on infected individuals, but they are far from perfect. Antiretroviral therapy has been extolled as the most effective way of suppressing the disease. It is efficacious in lowering viremia in the blood stream as well as lowering the HIV replication to undetectable levels. Highly antiretroviral therapy, although similar to ART is much more aggressive as it uses a combination of three or more drugs to delay the progression of the virus. HAART must be consumed every single day, which heavily impact the liver. AZT + 3TC is a combination drug also known as Combivir. It is part of the ART regiment, though its efficiency has been highly debated since it has egregious side effects. Interferon is a p rotein naturally created by the body to stimulate immune function. A synesthetic version is created in order to combat the HIV infection. HIV does impair the function the body’s natural interferon cells, but at a large dose it may aid in suppressing the replication of the virus. Towards the end of this paper the treatment of HIV according to four different cultures will be discussed such as the

International Agreements Political Economy -Myassignmenthelp.Com

Question: Discuss About The International Agreements Political Economy? Answer: Introduction The objective of this report is to provide an overview on the main factors affecting relative prices of commodities. Fluctuations in prices are upward or downward swings in commodity prices in the economy. A significant part of the price differences between the countries are the terms of trade of goods and services, fluctuations in exchange rate, wage compression etc. The causes of price fluctuations between the nations focus on the factors that impact the prices of tradable products, mainly services, as the price divergence apt to be eroded in the traded industry of the nation (Frank, Bernanke and LUI 2015) An exchange rate refers to the price of the countrys currency with respect to another countrys currency. Exchange rates are mainly determined in foreign exchange market. Relative prices of products and services are vital for determining changes in exchange rates over long periods. Purchasing power parity (PPP) signifies that the exchange rate between currencies is equivalent to r atio of currencies. It is determined in every nation based on their cost of living as well as inflation rates. This economic theory however compares various nations currencies through basket of product approach. Terms of trade (TOT) indicates the prices of countrys exports relative to their import prices. Fluctuation in terms of trade leads to changes in prices of exports and import goods. Foreign exchange market refers to the market in which the participants of the nation have the ability to purchase, sell, speculate and exchange on the currencies (Frenkel and Johnson 2015). The operations of foreign exchange market mainly includes- transfer of funds between two nations, providing short term credit to importers to increase the flow of products between countries and hedging risk of foreign exchange. The central banks of the respective nation plays vital role in this foreign exchange market. These banks control supply of money, inflation, and interest rates. They utilize foreign exch ange reserves for stabilizing market. The government usually intervenes in the FX market in order to influence exchange rate level and stabilize it for improving the health of the nation. Discussion There are several factors that influence foreign exchange rates. Fluctuations in relative price level of goods and services are one of the main factors that affect the foreign exchange rates. If the nations do not impose restrictions on trade, the exchange rate between these two nations currencies is permitted to adjust accordingly. Moreover, if the transport cost of products between the nations is nil, then exchange rate between currencies might reflect differences in level of price in these two nations. The theory of purchasing power parity mainly compares the relative prices of goods between the nations. Gopinath, Helpman and Rogoff (2014) propound that fluctuations in level of product prices brings about variation in foreign exchange rate. Similarly, fluctuations in exchange rates might result to variation in relative price level. Hence, this theory assumes that there has been direct linkage between FX rate and purchasing power of the nations currencies. In addition, amendment in international prices of products and services creates movements in the exchange rates and vice versa. This means that if there is decline in exchange rate, the relative price level of foreign products and services increases. On the other hand, if there is an increase in exchange rate, then relative prices of foreign products will increase. The foreign exchange rate apt to rest at that point that signifies equality between purchasing powers of two currencies. This particular point is referred to as the PPP. Under autonomous paper standards system, the currencys external value mainly depends on the purchasing power of this specific currency with respect to another currency (Mankiw 2014). However, under such system, exchange rate is mainly determined by PPP of various currencies in different nations. The actual exchange rate between the nations seldom reflects two currencies purchasing power. The reason behind this is that the government of respective nations has either control exchange rates or prices or inflicts restriction on both export as well as import of products. Thus, changes in FX rates tend to impact on the PPP. The terms of trade usually measures the exchange rate of one commodity for another when trade occurs between two nations. The Foreign exchange rate has huge influence on terms of trade. In general, weaker currency enhances exports and makes imports highly expensive. Volatility in rate of exchange is mainly caused by variation in terms of trade as increase in value of the currency of the nation reduces domestic import prices but might not directly impact on the export product prices. Reduction in exchange rate decreases terms of trade while appreciation in exchange rate increases terms of trade. Melvin and Norrbin (2017) states that, direct as well as indirect impact of change in exchange rate leads to change in trade surplus or trade deficit. It has been stated Reisman (2013) that, depreciation in exchange rate should be sufficiently huge to cause impact on the balance of trade. In the short run, the balance in trade will deteriorate the import value in foreign currency that is multi plied by magnitude of rise in foreign currency price. According to standard theory of trade, the balance of trade is predicted to be directly influenced by depreciation. This theory also defines that the balance in trade in the nation is supposed to rise after depreciation in real exchange rate. Menkhoff (2013) found out that depreciation in foreign exchange rate influences terms of trade. The terms of trade is mainly determined by each nations reciprocal demand for the commodity of other nations. Moreover, reciprocal demand is governed by demand as well as supply conditions. Therefore, the demand intensity by other nations for a particular nations exports and the demand intensity for imports from other nations are the vital factors, which determine terms of trade. Apart from this, cost conditions of the exported commodities and that imported have also vital role in terms of trade determination. Intervention in the foreign exchange market refers to the monetary policy tool at which the central bank takes participatory role for impacting transfer rate of monetary fund of the countrys currency (Noussair, Plott and Riezman 2013). Intervention in FX market usually comes in two sections, which includes- Firstly, the nations that are highly dependent on exports and deals with appreciating currency, the government might try to intervene. Therefore, by weakening their currency, they are making export products highly competitive in global market. Secondly, there are times when intervention might be short time reactionary for particular event. However, these events might cause the nations currency move in particular direction in less time space. There are certain circumstances at which the government of the respective nations intervenes in the FX market in order to influence exchange rate level. The government adopts certain methods for influencing exchange rate, which includes- Reserves as well as borrowing- If the government wants in maintaining original value and exchange rate value decreases, then it might use foreign exchange reserves. Varying interest rates- Rise in interest rates causes flow of money as well as increase sterling demand (Melvin and Norrbin 2017). Moreover, it does not have impact on depressing demand in the nation. In this case, the government might be reluctant to reduce demand for increasing the currency value. Borrowing- At times, the government might borrow foreign currencies from the foreign countries. Reducing inflation rate- The government might decrease aggregate demand through tighter fiscal or monetary policy. Therefore, the main reasons for which government of respective countries intervenes in the foreign exchange market are given below: In order to correct for failures in the market In order to reverse growth in respective nations deficit in trade In order to enhance the performance of the nation. The government of the respective countries achieves following objectives by intervening in the FX market- Exchange rate stability Prevention of undervaluation or overvaluation of nations currencies Reserving exchange for vital imports Encouraging as well as protecting domestic industries For improving balance of payments For curbing conspicuous consumption For regulating export and securities transfer For repaying their foreign loans Conclusion From the above study, it can be concluded that there are several reasons for fluctuations of prices between the nations such as exchange rate, terms of trade etc. Relative prices fluctuation is one of the factors that affect foreign exchange rate. The factors that affects changes in FX rates includes- supply as well as demand of commodities, inflation rate, political and economic stability and government debt. Moreover, the government also intervenes in the market for improving the economic health of the nation by stabilizing exchange rate, repaying foreign loans, improving balance of payments etc. References Frank, R.H., Bernanke, B.S. and LUI, H.K., 2015.Principles of economics. Bill Gates Essays (918 words) - Microsoft, Bill Gates, Windows XP

Bill Gates In its 23-year lifetime, Microsoft has had three distinct phases. The first, from 1975 to 1989, was characterized by both bold thrusts into new businesses. Among their many successes were MS-DOS, Word, Excel, Macintosh software and Windows. The company relied on the success of Windows, banking every penny they had on its success, which paid off in Microsoft's second phase from 1990, when Windows 3.0 was released, to 1994. Customer driven change also marked phase two. Customers wanted operating systems that blended the best of Windows, UNIX, and NetWare, this was the beginning of Windows NT. Customers wanted the best of Microsoft's productivity tools to work better together, so Microsoft Office was created to integrate the software. Recognizing the need to develop fundamental advances in software, Microsoft created Microsoft research. In 1995 Microsoft entered phase three, taking advantage of tremendous opportunities offered by the Internet. Since 1995 Microsoft has reinvented itself so that, today, everything Microsoft creates or updates leverages with the Internet. In the beginning Gates' was mainly concerned and involved with technical development of new products in order to attract consumers. Since Microsoft controls the largest percentage of the market than any of its competitors Gates' puts more focus on the organization itself and its employees. Microsoft's mission is to continually advance and improve software technology and to make it easier, more cost effective and more enjoyable for people to use computers. In order for Microsoft to continue on its fruitful path the development of intelligent decision makers, otherwise known as managers, must be trained. Gates' realizes the ROI of his creation relies on every single individual, which makes up the organization called Microsoft. He also knows he cannot be at the table to make ever single day-to-day decision, instead of trying to be in a hundred place at oncece Gates' attempts to train well oiled managers. He has even published articles that reveal his expectations and qualities he attemp ts to instill into Microsoft managers. Here are Bill's ten qualities of a good employee: 1. Choose a field thoughtfully. By choosing a field one enjoys it makes it easier to generate enthusiasm towards one's work. This is true for both a manager and an employee. 2. Hire carefully and be willing to fire. A strong team is vital, because a mediocre team provides mediocre results, no matter how well it is managed. 3. Create a productive environment. This is a particular challenge because it requires different approaches depending on the environment. Sometimes productivity is maximized by providing everybody his or her own office and other times by moving everybody into open space. Sometimes financial incentives stimulates productivity and motivation. Usually a mixture of approaches is necessary to reach desired productivity. 4. Define success. This is done by providing employees with a clear definition of success and how they should measure their achievements. Goals must be realistic. For example, project schedules must be set those who actually do the work. People will accept a bottom-up deadline they helped set, but maybe overwhelmed by a schedule imposed from upper management that doesn't map reality. Unachievable goals undermine an organization. 5. To be a good manager, you have to like people and be good at communicating. This quality is generally impossible to fake. If an individual doesn't genuinely enjoy interacting with people it will be hard to manage well. 6. Develop your people to do their jobs better than you can. Transfer your skills to them. This is an exciting goal, but it can be threatening to a manger that is worried about training his replacement. Many managers like to see their employees increase their responsibility because it frees them up to tackle new or undone tasks. 7. Build morale. It should be made clear there's plenty of good will to go around and that there is not just one hotshot manager getting all the credit. Explain to employees the importance of their work to the company and customers. Giving people a sense of importance increases motivation to complete the task to the best of their ability and provides the feeling of satisfaction after completion. 8. Take on projects yourself. Managers need to do more than communicate. Nobody wants to work for a boss who just delegates tasks. It

Window of Vulnerability Calculation Essay Example

Window of Vulnerability Calculation Essay Example Window of Vulnerability Calculation Paper Window of Vulnerability Calculation Paper CALCULATE THE WINDOW OF VULNERABILITY A security breach has been identified within a small Microsoft workgroup LAN. The workgroup consists of three primary workgroups which contain group membership lists of users within the Active Directory infrastructure that currently exists on the SMB Server that is located within the confines of the LAN structure. The security breach, which is defined as any event that results in a violation of any of the CIA (confidentiality, integrity, availability) security principles, was caused by the SMB server being accessed by an unauthorized user due to a security hole that was detected by the server software manufacturer the previous day. The security patch will not be available until possible as long as three days, but hopefully within that timeframe. In addition, the LAN administrator needs at least one week (minimum) to download, test, and install the patch. To calculate the Window of Vulnerability (WoV) for this security breach, the following timeline will be used as a guideline to determine the basis for calculation: However, first it is important to understand the variables considered in this timeline formula. The WoV is the period within which defensive measures are reduced, compromised, or lacking. The WoV covers a timeline from the moment a vulnerability is discovered and identified by the vendor. It also includes the time taken to create, publish, and finally apply a fix to the vulnerability. It is also important to explore the device(s) that were targeted by the attack. In this instance, being the SMB server within the LAN. The SMB server utilizes an application layer network protocol, which can run atop the session layer. It provides shared access to files, printers, serial ports, and network nodes (workstations, laptops, desktops, etc. ) and provides a client/server relationship throughout the network. This means that every domain layer of the IT Infrastructure can possibly be affected at some level by this security breach that has occurred, which must be considered in the timeframe analysis of the WoV as well. In addition, it is important to consider exactly how this security breach occurred, when determining counter-measures to contain and reduce the likelihood of any such occurrences from happening again. However, these factors are not actually part of the timeline for calculating the WoV, but should be addressed when understanding the WoV. The security hole that was detected by the server software manu-facturer the previous day gave the unauthorized user a window of opportunity/vulnerability by discovering the backdoor (security hole) to access resources and bypass existing security controls, password encryption, and access controls that were put in place to protect the IT infrastructure. It is possible that a utility such as netcat was used or a rootkit or some type of Trojan horse backdoor software or device. Calculation of Window of Vulnerability: Factors to consider in the timeline: * 1 Day Ago = Security Hole Detected by Manufacturer * 3 Days = A patch will be Available 1 Week = Minimum time for LAN admin to download/test/install patch Therefore, Day 0 = 09/28/12; + 3 days = 10/01/12; + 7 days = 10/08/12 (min) *[+ 2 days extra for any potential problems] 10/10/12 = Day n . This can be depicted in the following graphical display: Day n = a total of 13 days have elapsed from Day 0 . In conclusion, the WoV would be 1 3 days based on this timeframe. *You could conceivably calculate the WoV to be 11 days without including the additional 2 days I figured in for margin of error/potential problems. However, it is best to always calculate on a worst-case scenario basis when calculating the Window of Vulnerability

Secondly, Accenture surveyed specific expertise in the industry and identified a key problem which hinders success in business i.e. inability to execute and deliver ideas. Having correctly identified the problem Accenture succeeded by implementing effective strategies compared to other IT companies i.e. launching â€Å"from innovation to execution†. This paper makes a conclusion that GE is operating in different countries as well as a wide range of industries. They conduct different campaigns specifically designed for these industries. On the one hand company needs to address specific strengths and weaknesses in these different products and use them in their advertising and awareness campaigns. This will help creating brand awareness in B-to-B market. On the other hand GE has to unite these different industries under one company name and a logo. It is important for smooth operating of the company. Command and control operations of the company can also be very inconvenient if the different industries grew independent from core-company. Therefore developing a brand name under which all the sub departments and industries can unite and recognized is particularly important to GE.

Legal, Ethical, or Moral Research Paper Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 500 words

Legal, Ethical, or Moral - Research Paper Example Jimenez deportation and the suit against the hospital by Montejo are guided by legal rules and regulations, and the validity of the deportation was determined to be illegal regarding court jurisdiction in deciding the deportation. The lack of moral guidelines and the presence of legal rules on the deportation make the case a legal issue. The decision denying Martin Memorial immunity on false imprisonment was decided on legal regulation pertaining to seeking vindication of a private right when the court lacks jurisdiction over the matter. However, moral issues are also inherent in the case owing to the decision by the hospital to deport Jimenez knowing well that he will have no hospital care in Guatemala, risking his life in the process, and giving his 72-year-old mother the responsibility of a caregiver (Sontag, August 3, 2008). Dr. Bradley’s case is more of a moral issue than a legal issue because of the extent of trust to which the doctor was bestowed on by the parents to the affected children. Dr. Bradley acted unethically and irresponsibly in the case betraying the parent’s trust for the care of their children, falling short of ethical and professional requirement, and lacking the respect that an elder ought to have when caring for children. It is a moral issue because of the negligence of the hospital allowed the vice to continue for over 11 years despite an earlier case of abuse reported by a nurse. Abusing and molesting children under his care or the delivery of paediatric treatment patient by an adult also makes the issue a moral issue because of the position of adults to care for children in the community and not harm them. It is a legal issue owing to the 471 counts of molestation facing the doctor in the case but all this cases and many more portray the moral and ethical failure in his practice making it more of a moral/ethical issue. Savage-Morrell case is a moral issue owing to the many moral issues that are intertwined
